Did you know that in Mexico sometimes they eat with a table on the street like it's no thaaang? When was the last time you set up on University Avenue with your din? And how about this: their downtowns are more like how we kids imagine American downtowns were in the 1950's. The center of town is where the people are at. It's really happening down there. I often find myself wondering in the U.S., "where the people at?" They in El Centro.
But what are you going to do? You can't change all these socioeconomic forces that engulf the typical teenager. But you can't spend you life being a nagging nanny at your own culture, either, when it's all the same in the end. Maybe all you can do is climb to the top of a roof with some friends, have a pillow fight, and fall asleep on fluffy pillows to the sound of Jackson 5 Christmas being played below.
