Provo band ER returns to its roots
Show to be band’s first in Utah since relocating to Los Angeles
PROVO, Utah (September 22, 2009) – This Saturday night, disco punk band ER will return to Provo to play to their hometown crowd for the first time since moving to Los Angeles earlier this year. The show, held at Velour Live Music Gallery in downtown Provo, promises to be a night to remember for the group's dedicated local following.
Originally based in Provo, ER was scouted by manager Alex Jones in April of this year. After becoming their manager, Jones proposed that the band move to Los Angeles. ER agreed and moved soon after.
The band of four now lives and records in their Chinatown loft, just outside of downtown LA. Since moving, ER has played numerous shows in venues throughout southern California. Drummer Thomas Carroll thinks the group’s sound has been maturing. “It’s a lot crazier, but a lot more controlled, as well.” Saturday’s show promises to be a memorable one.
“You know, more chicks. More guitar solos,” Carroll adds.
ER began in 2004 as Elizabethan Report. BYU students and cousins Tony and Spencer Petersen played acoustic shows throughout Utah Valley, sometimes making their audiences uncomfortable. Drummer Thomas Carroll and bassist Aaron Hatch joined in summer 2007, helping define the band’s signature disco punk sound.
The four have had unusual success, touring throughout the Southwest and playing last year’s NAMU festival with Bob Dylan, The Raconteurs, and Gnarles Barkley. They released their debut EP Hola May in 2008 and their first LP Are you a murderer? in 2009. They also write a blog called Self Made Beast, which can be found at www.erbeast.com.
Doors open at 8:00 pm on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at Velour Live Music Gallery 135 E University, Provo, UT. More information can be found at www.velourlive.com or by calling (801) 818-BAND.
